Spanos Group is proud to announce the successful commissioning of a 5-meter full-round tunneling formwork for the Amphilochia large pumped-storage project, supplied to TERNA S.A.
This significant infrastructure project in Greece is key to enhancing the country’s renewable energy capacity through advanced hydroelectric storage solutions.
The Amphilochia pumped-storage facility will have a capacity of 680 MW, enabling it to store energy by pumping water to an upper reservoir during low demand periods and releasing it to generate power when demand is high.
This innovative project will improve energy grid stability, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and support Greece’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.

Following the successful deployment of the 5-meter formwork, Spanos will deliver a second, larger 7.5-meter full-round tunneling formwork in January 2025 to support further tunneling operations.
