Spanos is pleased to share the successful installation and commissioning of a second full-round tunneling formwork for the Amphilochia pumped-storage project, supplied to the leading Greek contractor, TERNA S.A.
This new 7.5-meter formwork system is dedicated to the construction of the Agios Georgios tunnel, a key underground segment of this landmark energy storage initiative in western Greece.
As the project progresses, this latest development plays an essential role in enabling the efficient execution of complex tunneling works required for the hydroelectric infrastructure. Designed for durability and high performance, the formwork supports fast, precise concrete lining operations under challenging geological conditions.
The Amfilochia Pumped‑Storage Hydro Plant is a landmark energy‑storage project: owned by TERNA ENERGY S.A., built by TERNA S.A., with 680 MW generation capacity, ~816 GWh/year output, and expected online in 2026–2027. Recognized as a key strategic infrastructure for Greece’s renewable transition, it plays a vital role in stabilizing the power grid, delivering long‑duration storage, and anchoring domestic economic benefits.
We are proud to continue supporting TERNA S.A., a trusted partner in large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, and to contribute to one of Europe’s most important renewable energy investments.
Spanos Group remains committed to delivering advanced engineering solutions that meet the demands of modern infrastructure with precision and reliability.
